Hello and welcome to the Lorcana Muses podcast. I'm Brittany and joining me today is Nikki. Hello, this is Nikki from Team Muses. And unfortunately, our podcast has had a little bit of a um shuffle. We're turning over a new leaf and making a few changes. Um, if any of you follow us on Instagram, you will have known like we've taken about a month off and things because Stephanie has decided to part ways with the Muses podcast. She had this to say. I'm grateful for everyone who has supported us, listened, and been part of this journey. It meant a lot to be involved, and I'm proud of what's been built. I'll still be around enjoying Morkana when I can, just in a different way. Thank you for being a part of it. So Stephanie has decided to move forward to focus on her family and to rebalance her time and priorities. But I am going to continue to host uh the podcast, and I am going to be joined by Nikki and our also our other teammate, Leslie. And we'll have some guests along the way, as we've always had, um, to kind of reshift a little bit of where we're going. So we're getting some new voices and some new perspectives on Larcana. We're still going to be a female-focused podcast. Still have uh community and life balance as a big push for our content. So none of that has changed, just kind of which voices are on the podcast has kind of changed. So without further ado, I'm gonna introduce Nikki.
SPEAKER_00Thank you, Brittany. And I'd also like to thank Stephanie for all her time on the podcast. We will miss her, but I'm excited to come on this journey and continue the podcast moving forward. I have been a part of Team Muses for the last few months now. I also had to take a break myself a little longer than a month, but I had some family things that I needed to take care of. And I'm getting back into the game and really looking forward to it. So I guess I could say Wild's Unknown is my uh new move into Lorcana, but I have played competitively, I've played in league nights, I have also streamed. Um, you might have seen me on the Lorcana Muses YouTube channel. I did stream quite a bit with the team, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So I guess this will kind of help me into uh the podcast here. So I enjoy um the game and the art, and it's amazing because I'm a Dis nerd and I love everything about Disney Ulurcana. I am married. My husband David has been on one of the podcasts previously. Um, and we have a kiddo who's 10 and he's starting to get interested in learning how to play. So hopefully he'll be joining as a a little muse soon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So join the mini muses and join the rest of the kiddos that play Lorcana in our community. So that would be awesome to have him on. Um, and yes, Dave, Dave has been on previously, and both you and Dave have done the streaming with us for our Twitch and our YouTube channel when we've done the hosting for the bigger tournaments in the state when we were we weren't when we were playing in the tournaments, and you were hoping you were helping with the stream from home. Um, and it was been so supportive of us as a team and just awesome, wonderful people. Um, and our teammate Leslie will also be joining us, but it is final season, and she is a college-level tutor, and so she is currently very, very busy. So she definitely is excited to lend her voice to the podcast as well. And so, what we're going to do is kind of move forward with that, and we'll kind of lean back into our normal format of what did we do this weekend? And so, but instead of a weekend update, we're gonna do a month update because it's been a month since I recorded the last podcast episode. And a lot has changed. All of the cards for this set were revealed. Um, we watched a bunch of lore casts, we had a bunch of tournaments, and we had a whole month of set championships and things like that. So it's kind of a lot of a lot of information to pack into a little bit of time. But overall, this set looks super fun. We love all the synergies, the super synergy and the toy synergy and the introduction of Pixar. The enchanteds are gorgeous. Yes, the art is just so beautiful. And honestly, I was super excited because I was choked like the podcast was chosen to do another reveal. Um, so on Instagram revealed um the Kita card. As Kita. As Kita, cosplayed as Kita to do the reveal. It was super fun. I I almost cosplayed a key as Kita for the pre-release event, um, but it's starting to get really hot here, and I was just worried about that blue makeup just streaming down my face. That brave heart look and stuff. So I did a I did a little bit of um running around in my neighborhood dressed as Kita, and I got lots of funny looks as I was, you know, trying to hide around a tree. What you can't tell in the reveal is that I'm wearing this white wig because Kita has white hair and it would not stay on my head. It is sliding down so crazy. In some of the still frames, you could probably see my, because I'm a dark brunette, right? Like my hair is very dark. So you can see like my dark hair peeking out on the edges because the wig cap broke. And so the wig kept sliding around on my head, and I didn't have time to get a new wig cap before I needed to be able to edit the video and things like that.
SPEAKER_00So Kita just needed her roots done.
SPEAKER_01Kita needs to get her roots done. Um, it was it's really funny. And I hurt myself doing the reveal. I was wearing sandals, which you can't even see my feet in the reveal. So I should have just worn regular shoes. But I'm wearing sandals and I'm sliding around in them on this sharp rocks, and my foot slid off my sandal and I cut the bottom of my foot. And so, just letting you know, like I had the best time doing this reveal, but I also hurt myself and almost lost my wig a few times. It was super funny. My sister was the videographer and she was laughing at me the whole time. There is a reason why it is a silent film, is because my sister is laughing the whole time we're revealing doing this recording. And so we had to change it, and I kept a straight face, but we had to change the video to being. I was planning on doing a silent film initially, and then I was like, no, I'll change it into a voiceover. And then I was like, no, I'm gonna lean into the silent film element because she's laughing the whole time.
SPEAKER_00Liked the silent film element, yeah. I liked how it was all old tiny.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was trying to go for it because like in Atlantis, they have the film reel, yeah, right when they're talking about it before and after when they're doing the like when they come back, like they showed all the pictures and everything. So I was kind of doing that, but I didn't want to do still frame pictures, like I didn't want to make a stop motion. Oh I think what you do was great. So I had a I had a fun time. I was like trying to do a little Charlie Chaplin action. I did not show my face expressive enough, I don't think, for it to be fully over the top. So that that's something to lean into. I had to work on my acting skills to get a little bit more like physically expressive because I feel like I have a relatively expressive voice doing the podcast, but I am not an actress, so it's okay. We can take some improv classes. Yes, yes. So did we've done we've done some voice lessons and now we gotta get take some improv classes. Right. But that that was probably a big highlight for me for the for the month was being able to do the card reveal. Um, I still have not opened that as a foil because that that's my goal is to have the cards I revealed as a foil. Yeah, definitely. Um and so that is on my list of cards to trade. So if anyone has a foil of the Kita, I would love to um trade for it. I don't yet. If I do, I was like, I don't know anyone who's opened her as a foil. Um and I've opened her a few times, it was very exciting. I opened her during Limited this weekend and I was like, yay!
SPEAKER_00That's somebody's like, Oh, did you open Enchanted? And I was like, No, but I opened the card. That's always exciting.
SPEAKER_01It was super exciting. Um, and I I just like the card. I I haven't used her in an abil oh, I did get to use her once. I used her once. Daryl and I were playing pack rush. Nice. And I was able to use her ability during pack rush, and I was so excited. So, because her ability is you have to have two cards in your discard in the turn, and then you can ink the top card of your deck in into your inkwell face down and exerted, but you have to have in your turn had two cards in your discard. So in pack rush, it was actually very difficult to do. Yeah. In regular play, I don't think it's gonna be that difficult to get two cards in the discard. No. Like you challenge with one, you sing one, you play something that draws a card and discards a card. Like there are lots of ways to get two cards in the discard, but in limited, it was very difficult. So I was but I was determined. That was I wanted to win, but my my main goal was to get that card to go off at least once. So, and it worked. And I and I won. So yeah. Well then that and I won, and so that was even better. But yeah, so my favorite format, I mean, I love constructed play, but playing sealed and playing draft, like limited play, is so fun. I love the creativity you have to have in building decks. I love the the thought process behind it. I love being able to use different synergies when we're revealing like when we're playing with cards. So this past weekend was a lot of fun with that. It's so very different, like such a wide swing from playing set champs, which I played relatively well for set champs. I didn't win a mat in any of the set champs I played in, but I played in I want to say eight set champs over the month. Um, I got top four twice and top eight three or four times. I got ninth twice. So it was just like top ten. So it was it was a I played a lot. Um, and I played with a variety of decks. So I played Ruby Amethyst one set or one weekend. My favorite. And then I played Amber Amethyst for most of the set champ cycle. But something to know about Arizona locals is Amber Amethyst is actually everywhere. We've played so many mirrors because our friend John brought that to a CCQ, and so now everybody knew it was a winning deck because he got top eight at the CCQ with that deck. And because of that, the whole Southwest basically has been on the Amber Amethyst list because it's been super fun to play, but it's been a lot of mirrors. So I played that and I was tired of playing the mirror. So the final weekend I played Amethyst Steel Location Burn. Oh fun. It was super fun. And one of the days I got top top eight with it, and the other day I did not, but I still had a really fun time playing with it.
SPEAKER_00So is the amber amethyst since I've kind of been out of the loop? Yeah, was it an aggro deck? I'm guessing.
SPEAKER_01No, no, not it's a full control deck.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I guess it's definitely has a little bit of early one drops, but past that, no, it's it is a control deck. So uh it is super fun. You when you think because you've been out of it for a little bit, like yes, traditionally you think amber amethyst and you think aggro. But yeah, no, you've been out of it for a minute, and it is definitely because of Raging Storm has transitioned into a control deck with demo with Demona and with Elsa and things like that, like being world exert characters, just always a plus, just taking control of the board and having always having card advantage, which is that's the big push is having the card advantage. How fun. Yeah, playing Cauldron with that is super fun too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I didn't have a chance, unfortunately, to play a lot. We had every intention, Dave and I, we did. Um but life had other plans. So now that those plan, you know, those life things have settled, I'm ready to get back in the game and I'm excited because we have Pixar now.
SPEAKER_01So I so I've been talking a lot about like what I was excited about this last month. What have you kind of because I know you've been looking at the cards.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so we've got played a lot of pack rush just at home because we were out of town for the pre-release, although we did hit a game store and uh got our pre-release boxes because I didn't want to miss out. But um, I've been really excited about, I don't want to say just the Pixar ones, but I think it's so great seeing all the the toy synergy and then the supers. But what I've really been noticing is they've really kind of honed in on the madrigals and they're really starting to incorporate the synergy with all of that family of characters, I should say. So I'm actually, you know, interested to explore that and see how that can all incorporate. Since I mean, most of it's gonna still be in it, uh, coming into rotation, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So so the older madrigals will be rotated out. Yeah, but because they were just had all these ones, they they won't get to stay in. So I think that's probably why they had so many madrigals in this set, is so that we keep madrigals moving forward. And there was like there was a few madrigals last set too. So like they they've kept them mixing. Yeah. So that's definitely something to keep in mind, is like they've kept some synergy when it comes to like the madrigals. And um, so I was also kind of excited. Also, the enchanteds, the the madrigal enchanteds, like the like the Isabella. She is so vibrant. And I'm saying that because Nikki actually I pulled one.
SPEAKER_00It's the Isabella Madrigal Caring Cultivator, the Shift 4, 6 Drop, and the art on it is just absolutely gorgeous. Purple dress, then all the flowers around her. It's it's just beautiful. No, I I think she's she's fantastic. The only enchanted I have right now, but but I'm glad to pull it.
SPEAKER_01It's it's a great beautiful. So uh Daryl and I opened two cases, three troves, and then all of our limited boxes. Um, because Daryl and I played in three pre-release events this weekend, so we opened six release sets uh with uh between us, and we opened one enchanted in all of those packs. Now we did open a second enchanted, but that was when we bought separate packs for pack rush. Uh so we opened um the Dunbrock family portrait or tapestry. I was like, no difference. Um so we opened that one and we ended up trading it because I want it to be opened a Leviathan, and so I traded for the Leviathan. Um it was not a straight trade because the Dunbrock family tapestry is the cheapest of the enchanteds. And so we ended up trading with that and some cash and just doing some trades that way. Go do what you gotta do. But I wanted the I wanted the Leviathan from the start. It was basically the only my only chase for the set. Yeah. And it's not even the prettiest of the cards, but it's something that because I love Atlantis so much, yeah, I was like, I want the Atlantis one. And I didn't even want the Keda. Not saying I wouldn't love the Keda if I opened it, but the Leviathan is just so cool looking. Yeah, yeah. Um, and the kita is gorgeous, but I just loved how cool the Leviathan is. And actually, I'll probably play the Leviathan. So that was another reason I wanted it, is because I'll play it. Yeah. Uh so we did that one, and then the other one we we opened was the um song from Brave, the the Sky song. Oh, I can't remember.
SPEAKER_00Touch the Sky. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So we opened the Touch the Sky, which is the steel song to move location. Nice. Um it is very, very kind of eerie looking a little bit like in the background. It's very pretty, but it's it's not quite as vibrant as some of the other ones. Right. But it is steel, so it I think it has like that kind of feeling to it. Yeah, that the tone. Yeah, a little bit tone. It is all all of the styling with the art deco style is like some of my favorite enchanteds from Lorcana. Yeah. Um I I would have been I'm happy no matter what enchanteds I've been opening. But yeah, I was definitely excited to trade for the Leviathan because it's the one, it was my chase. And and somebody was like, That's your chase. I'm like, of course, it's like it's aggressive.
SPEAKER_00Like, yeah, I'm on the hunt for the Jack Jack Enchanted.
SPEAKER_01So cute. So cute.
SPEAKER_00I'm in love with the art. I love how like the hands almost look like glow in the dark on it. So that's gonna be what I'm gonna be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, somebody opened that one on Saturday and they saw it, and the little demon jack jack is so funny on the card. And all the elements in the background on that card are super cool. They're really cool. I think that's all that's one of my favorite things is noticing more details in cards when they're in person because yeah, no matter how cool a card reveal is, and shout out to all the all the content creators for making such great reveals for the set. Definitely. There's just something different about holding the card in your hand and being able to analyze the art. Definitely. That is like why like I know a lot of people are pushing for like finding a digital client. Like, we know that Robbinsberger put out like a post to like have an app developer and everything like on their like web posting, and people have ta are like super excited for a future digital client. But to me, the whole appeal of this game is the physical part of the cards and playing in person and having that connection and playing like there's something different about playing a game in person versus a video game. 100%. So I am like always pro like play in person, practice in person, like all of those things. I do understand the accessibility factor of that. Um, and I definitely have like I have the ability to buy two cases of cards, right? Like I have two incomes and no kids and things like that. So it's one of those things where I know I am privileged in that regard, and there is definitely a financial burden to this game when you're playing it certain way. There are ways to play it cheaper. Yeah. I don't choose to play it that way. But I was like, I love the chase and I love opening cards, so that is part of the reason why we play so much and we open so many cards that way. But it is something that I'm I don't want the game to lose its heart if it has a digital client.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, I think it's it's a good concept and it'll it will work. And it gives the opportunity for you to kind of play at any time, anywhere, and you can, you know, essentially meet people all over the world and play people anywhere. But I agree with you where the face-to-face is nice. There's just a different vibe when you're in a store and you're sitting down, or maybe you're just playing with friends at home. It's a different vibe. And you can also see how different people play, you know, their decks and how they handle the cards. And, you know, maybe you're playing a similar deck and it's like, oh, I wouldn't have inked that, I would have played it, or can I ask why you did what you did? And it's nice to be able to have that conversation involved with the game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, and I and I I totally understand where people are coming from. Like they don't have the ability to leave the house or they only have a few minutes here and there. Like so, driving to a store and then playing for a few hours is just uh not accessible to them. So I appreciate people who play at home and play pack rush at home and like have a partner at home that they can play with. So I do understand people's want and need for it because that's something that we had a bunch of new players that came and played at pre-release. Um, they're like, Well, is there an app? And the answer is no, right? Like there's not it's one of those things where like there's not a supported digital client, right? Right. And so it's just one of those things like eventually we know it's probably going to come because it has been a big ask. And the other physical card games have supported apps. Right. But it's just not something that is in the game right now.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I think too, you know, it's it's still fairly new.
SPEAKER_01I mean, yeah, like like we're we're sub three years right now on the game, and it's it's grown so much in that time. Yeah. Like we just like this is set twelve, right? So we have we've had lots of cards, and yeah, like this is our next set before rotation. And so our next set, our last set before our new next rotation. So We'll keep set, we'll keep, you know, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, and then thirteen, right? So we'll we'll rotate with Attack of the Vine and we'll we'll lose a lot of core cards. But I think that I think that rotation, although it changed a lot of things about the game, and it took a while to recover from the rotation. Sure, yeah. I think it changed the way people played. I think it increased the creativity of decks. And yeah, I think that there was definitely some growing pains. And there were things that I think went well with it and things that did not go well with it. I think they probably learned a lot from the first rotation as to how to do what to keep and what to change and things like that that they've looked at for this next set. I hope so. It's definitely it's definitely a hope. They do seem to have learned a lot as we've moved from set to set. Like and learned from the mechanics that of things that people were enjoying and things that people were not enjoying. Um, I know that they realized a lot of people didn't like discards, so they took out a lot of the discard type things. Now there are still cards that do discard mechanics, right? The date Donald Duck from this set is a discard mechanic card, and things like they're still splashed in here and there, but they're not like a core mechanic that is right there. Dave's gonna be very disappointed.
SPEAKER_00My husband loved playing a very nasty discard deck with uh amber emeralds. Let's see what he comes with.
SPEAKER_01There's still there's still options in that deck. Like he can still play discard, it just won't be as aggressive as like with the Prince John. So we actually opened two packs. Yeah. We'll do a little crinkle action. We pre-opened them. We didn't look at them yet to kind of talk a little bit about the cards from this set. So we'll each start. I opened the Queen Even Evil Ruler one drop, Inkable 2-1, while an opposing damage character is in play. This character gets plus two attack. I think this would work really well in a Ruby Ruby Emerald deck. Yeah. And I think it's a it's a really great one drop for that kind of damage deck.
SPEAKER_00Definitely. So my first pull is uh Helga Sinclair, the four-drop, and crisis management. If two or more of your cards were put into your discard this turn, you can pay two less to play this character. So I feel like this is kind of a situational card. If you get it early, obviously there's not much you can do with it. So I don't think it's great. I don't know it'll see much play. I feel like a lot of Helga cards don't see much play, and I feel bad for her. Don't feel bad. She's a villain. I know she's a villain, but I feel like a lot of her art has been really, really cool.
SPEAKER_01So, so cool.
SPEAKER_00Um, and so it's just kind of a bummer that we don't get to see those cards and play. And look at the beautiful art.
SPEAKER_01Next, I have the pterodactyl Janie doll Sid's Toy, a one-drop inkable one. During your turn, when this character is banished, each opponent loses one lore and you gain one lore. This card is so fun to play with. I so I played in three limited events this weekend. And one of the one of the days I went like super synergy because I opened a bunch of supers.
SPEAKER_00Oh nice.
SPEAKER_01Um, and then the other day, one of the days I just had a mishmash deck, and then the third day I had a toys theme deck. I had 10 toys. So then I like leaned in and and sit. I had 10 toys. Oh perfect. And I was like, excellent, excellent, let's go. So, and then I also had the song that searches for toys, and I had the Woody that searches for toys. So I had a toy synergy going on. It was really fun. But yeah, this pterodactyl Janie doll was great because then I would banish this. I banished it once with Cid, a different game. I banished it and was able to then play the the toy that comes in for free if there's a car if there's a toy in your discard that you put at the bottom. So I played so much toy synergy. It was fantastic and hilarious.
SPEAKER_00I have a three-drop Lyle Tiberius Rourke, just a 4-4, nothing fancy, a little muscle if you need it, but it is just vanilla.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, it's a it's a it's a well-statted vanilla and it's great in limited play, but I I agree there are definitely different cards I'd be playing on three. Yeah, definitely. All right, next I have the Steel Three Drop Inkable Fat Cats Club. It's a 1-6 that has two lore. This was fantastic and limited. And as someone who is playing, who has been playing the Amethyst Steel Location Burn deck, this would be an option to put back into that deck to add more pressure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right in the beginning. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So that this is something that's on my short list to alter that deck with. Yeah. So it's something something I've and playing that unlimited is hilarious.
SPEAKER_00I played that in pack rush last night and Dave was not pleased, you know, because I was able to pretty much get four lore right off the bat. So yeah, I really enjoy that as an early kind of pressure on your opponent for sure. And now I'm calling this one the new Lawrence, which is Rat Capone. And so he's a two-five, but while he has no damage, he gets plus three and he quests for two. So I think this one will get a ton of play.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't disagree with you. I think that people are going to love that five five and being able to, you know, challenge a lot very aggressively.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. And definitely if you can put it with things that remove damage, you're gonna be.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, like like we have a lot of new damage movement cards from this set, but we also have the Ohana mean means family uh from last set, like which would also do very well with that. All right, next I have the chip team player, six cost inkable, two seven. When you play this character, if you have another character with four willpower or more in play, you may draw a card. This synergizes very well with his brother Dale, because Dale allows you to use the willpower to challenge. So, and he also has four willpower. So that's I feel like a good synergy card.
SPEAKER_00All right, so keeping on the rescue rangers theme, I have Monterey Jack, three draw unequable. It's uh bird's eye view when you play this character, you may reveal the top card of your deck. If it's a character card, put it in your hand, otherwise put it at the bottom of your deck. So nice way to go through your deck, give yourself an extra card. So I definitely think this could see play. It is unequable, but you know, if you got the room for it, just to kind of siphon through your deck, why not? Yeah, no, uh that that card I played on Saturday.
SPEAKER_01It's very nice. Yeah. And I primarily play mostly characters in most of the decks that I play. And so like that would be a card that I would enjoy. Definitely. Uh, this is a one-drop amethyst, sleepy deep sleeper one, two. When this character is banished, if you have a seven dwarves or princess character in play, you may draw a card. This goes with that dwarves deck. Yeah. I've seen amethyst steel dwarves running around with the seven dwarves mine. Oh, nice um deck. Although it's a theme deck, is very, very good. Sounds like fun. It does, it does sound like fun.
SPEAKER_00Wow, we're just keeping with themes here because I have happy. So two drop, happy, joyful adventure, three-three, uh, quest for one, just a vanilla card. Not bad for a two-drop being stated at three three.
SPEAKER_01No, for sure. We have a decent amount of two-drop three-threes from this set. Like Buzz is also.
SPEAKER_00It seems like they're kind of learning to beef up some of these earlier characters.
SPEAKER_01Something that they just started last set is like they started giving beefier spots to the vanilla cards.
SPEAKER_00I'm not opposed to that.
SPEAKER_01Um, all right. Next is a one-drop Fauna Good Nature Fairy 2-1 with support. So basically another Basil. So Basil's gonna get rotated out, so Fauna will stay.
SPEAKER_00Yep. I have my next card, is a song. Three drops, someone will lose his head. So we have the queen here, and it is each opposing character gets minus two this turn.
SPEAKER_01So that goes back to our Ruby Ruby sapphire days. Yep. Uh, you know, trying to Spanish or was it ice cream?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, ice block.
SPEAKER_01Ice block, yes. Sisu i Sisu on ice. Yep. So we still have the three-drop Sisu um to play. So we can have sing that with the character and then play the Sisu. Definitely. You can also sing that with the character and then play a um Headless Horseman. Oh, yeah. Okay, there is lots of synergy for some Ruby Sapphire going on there. Coming back. Back. Ruby's back. All right. Two drop Inkable Alma Magical leading the way. One, two. When you play this character, if you have another magical character in play, you may exert chosen opposing character. So this is definitely a definitely a theme deck heavy card. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I have what we'll definitely probably see some play here is uh Violet Par, the three drop, four, two, evasive. When you play this character, you may move one damage from chosen character to chosen opposing character. So nothing wrong with this card at all. It will definitely see some play. It's well stated and it has evasive, and that always puts pressure on decks that aren't.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I'm thinking about putting that into a Ruby Amethyst deck for sure. Yeah. Um I love the damage movement mechanics in those decks. Um, and I like that she is an evasive that does that mechanic. So evasive is always nice. Um, I next have a five-drop uninkable Ruby Dash Par, Super Speedy, 6-5 with Rush. So this is an uninkable Maui. Yeah. So it's not a bad, it's not a bad stat line, but honestly, with the amount of uninkables I would want to play in the Ruby deck, I don't know if he would make the cut because I want to play the amethyst uninkable dash who can quest on entry.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that might be the better way to go, but not bad to have that little bit of control and push with the don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_01I uh I was a big Maui standard. I played this. I played a lot of that card. But yeah, no, yeah, there's already a lot of uninkables when it comes to Ruby, and so you have to pick and choose your battles when it comes there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, definitely miss that amethyst Ruby deck with Maui, and then what I like to call the holy trinity with the goat and the brain and your fox. Yeah, I miss it. Back back to the good old days. Um, so my next card is uh five drop Donald Duck, uh three six and burning curiosity whenever this character quests. If you played another character this turn, each opponent chooses and discards and it quests for two. This will definitely see some playing a discard deck.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for discard for sure. Um I like the stat line on it. Yeah. Limited play was fantastic. It was like the stat line on it was great. And then honestly, there was lots of characters being played turn after turn. The six willpower made it difficult. It was not that difficult with the six willpower when Dale was on board on the other side. So I will say, like, there are definitely cards to remove him, but it was fun to play and limited.
SPEAKER_00Definitely.
SPEAKER_01Uh, next card is definitely a card we'll see play. Um, the Woody Leader of Toys, four-drop inkable amber card, three, four. When you play this character, look at the top four cards of your deck. You may reveal a toy character or card with a location or a location card named Andy's Room and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order. So this is definitely leader of the toys. Um, going to see some play. Yep. 100%.
SPEAKER_00I have Shepherd's Journal. So it's an item to drop uninkable. Margin notes. When you play this item, you may look at the top card of your deck. Put it on either the top of your deck or into your discard. Uh key to the puzzle, ink one, banish this item, return another item card from your discard to your hand. It's got a lot going on, but it does have some benefits if you want. I mean, if you're playing, I guess, a heavy items deck, which I don't think we see too much anymore.
SPEAKER_01No, but I do I do see what they're trying to do. And I I do think that they're bringing back some stronger items, and so I think that they're trying to bring more inner item synergy. Yeah. Um, next I have the Leviathan's lair. It's a four-drop uninkable ruby location. It's a one-four. Um when this look one to move for willpower. Um, when this location is banished, each opposing, each opponent chooses and banishes one of their characters. So and it has two lore pips. So they have to choose to banish this. Now, there are lots of small characters, so being able to banish, yeah, characters that they can choose to banish and have some abilities, but otherwise they're gonna leave it on board and it's gonna um you're gonna get that free lore. Free lore.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So I have ooh, look at that. I like the one after that. I know. Um so this is one drop unequable, the prince, zero two, quest for two, just a vanilla card, but it does allow for that early pressure with having two lore on the board early, especially if you you know you play first. So it's not bad, but it's not gonna last long on your board.
SPEAKER_01No, it's definitely if you're playing a hyper aggro deck, could be in there, but there's already so many cards that are hyper aggro, but it definitely reminds me of the Lilo that was the one drop. Um that but the two willpower versus the one willpower, it might might stick around. Might most characters are stated enough to get rid of that. Definitely. But you might most likely get two more from that. Yeah. All right. Six cost, Inkable, Isabella, Madrigal, Sapphire, perfectly in control, three, six. When you play this character and whatever she quests, you may move all damage from chosen character of yours to this character. At the end of your turn, you may remove all damage from this character. I think that the damage movement, even if it's not Madrigal's deck, I think that that's going to see some play. I think between her and Grandpappy and like the Sapphire damage movement decks, I think are gonna I don't know how high of a tier of a competitive deck it's gonna see, but I do think when we're thinking about decks that might be played, that is on the list.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It definitely came in handy. I played that card last night in Pack Rush, and I used it because I had Rat Capone out as well. So I was able to move the damage off of him onto her and then remove it completely. So I was able to keep Rat alive and without damage, and that was actually really fun to use that ability.
SPEAKER_01That's that's a fun combo. I like that.
SPEAKER_00So we got a legendary. We pulled uh Mr. Incredible, the five drop, shift three, uh, six-four, always united. This character gets plus two strength for each other character you have in play. And let's do this whenever one of your super characters challenges another character, draw a card. That's pretty awesome. Not gonna lie. That's yeah, super awesome. It's super awesome. Super awesome. Uh, I think this will definitely see play, not just for super decks, but I mean, having a shift three and well stated, along with having that extra two strength and you know, just having characters out there, yeah. This will definitely see a board or two or five.
SPEAKER_01Um, all right, so the foil that I have is Bruno Madrigal. So no enchanted, sadly, but he is a foil rare. Um, and so he is a five cost, inkable, sapphire, uh, oasis, oracle. He's a four-five. Once during your turn, whenever you remove damage from one of your one of your characters, you may look at the top two cards of your deck, put one in your hand and the other at the bottom of your deck. Whenever this character quests, you may remove all damage from chosen quick characters. So this go leans into the magical moving of damage and sinks well because he is actually um a five cost and Isabella is a six cost. So you can play them in the same deck and have them, you know, move damn move all the damage around.
SPEAKER_00Move all. Um, my foil is actually a card we already talked about in this round of cards. So I just got another someone will lose his head. So just a foil of that. So uh got a duplicate, which yeah, it happens.
SPEAKER_01So that was definitely I love doing this, especially beginning of a set, like just opening packs and like kind of thinking and talking about what each card can do and what kind of decks it could be in. Uh moving forward, our team, well, part part of our team is doing and a little bit of our community is doing a color game. So we rolled dice to choose the colors that we're going to be playing this set. There there's some like winnings to it too. So like if you're winning a lot with your deck because you randomly rolled it, um you get more points. There's gonna be like a like a pool of money based on like You didn't tell me that bit. So like there's a pool of money because you can win points based on how well you're doing. But we also like we would pay for people to re-roll their c re-roll their dice so that they didn't have certain ink call combinations. Mine got re-rolled once, and I ended up with Ruby Amethyst, which is hilarious because it's what I play a lot of. So it was something that was funny. And so a lot of our teammates got different ink pairings, and Nikki's planning on doing it, so she's gonna roll up and see what she's gonna roll and play. But because I got Ruby Amethyst, and because I played this weekend, I'm really excited to try a super deck, at least at the very beginning. I don't know how competitive it's gonna be because I definitely want my deck to be as competitive as possible. But at least for the first week, I'll play something, you know, thematic and fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and at least it you can see is it working and you know, how can you make improvements on it? And, you know, maybe you can really make it work with the theme that you have. There's nothing wrong with that.
SPEAKER_01No, for sure. Like I definitely have one with pretty thematic decks before. So, but I didn't necessarily take the lead from the uh start their the single player decks, right? But we have the the two-player starter decks. So one of them is a super themed deck, and it's it is Ruby Amethyst.
SPEAKER_00It happens to be, yes.
SPEAKER_01Um, and then the other part is the toys deck. Yep. Um, and that is a Emeralds Amber deck. And so I kind of like that they put that set together. I'm a little disappointed there's not extra packs in there like the single player decks before. Yep. Um, but I do like how like they added things like the deck boxes that you came and folded, so like that are for each theme, and then you can build a lore counter counter, like or two lore counters.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So one for each one out of all of the cardboard pieces. So it's kind of neat. Like it is definitely still cardboard, so you want some higher quality things for a long term, but at least to start, it's kind of a neat idea. Just like with the single, like with the pre-release kits, I really liked how they included dice. Yeah. And I liked that it came with a box inside that you could carry it around with you with your deck. Yeah. Um, because I definitely bring a deck box with me when I'm playing limited. Yep, but having it there was easy too.
SPEAKER_00I think they did a great job having the pre-release box. I think that was a really great call from Robinsberger. Like, I think to me, it was like kind of an extra perk to even go, you know, to the pre-release. And like I said, I wasn't in town, but it was like I made a point to find a game store where I was. And shout out to Many Realms in Henderson, Nevada. Your store is amazing. And they were very welcoming. Dave and I didn't get a chance to sit and play, uh, but we got our boxes, which was kind of the whole point. I was kind of sad we didn't get to sit and play because they had a really awesome store. It looks like you walk through a portal into their gaming area where their tables are. So um really nice place to go. Um, so anyone listening in Henderson, check it out. Um, but what I really liked about the box was that it it was uh, you know, really portable. And the fact that you got six packs. The only thing I would say is that I wish the dice were a little bit different from the troves. I it would would have been kind of nice if maybe they were a different color pattern just to kind of, you know, I guess differentiate it from the troves itself, but ultimately it was really, really cool, and I hope they do it again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I think that it really, really lent itself to a great event. It made made the events run very smoothly, having those kits available because there wasn't like a struggle with p making stacks of packs. Right. Everybody just got a box. Yeah. Everybody all had dice to play with. Like you didn't have to have people bring their dice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, everybody had a box, so like there wasn't just like people carrying a stack of cards or pulled a table. Yeah, a war counter. Yeah. So it was just definitely one of those things where I'm like, I appreciate. Appreciated that they took the time and the care to make them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they really thought it all through.
SPEAKER_01I also really liked the postcards. Those are really cool. And then Daryl and I, so we opened six of them, right? Because we played in three events. Um, and we ended up getting five out of the six of the travelers, but we were lucky enough to be able to trade somebody for the last one. So now we have all of the six travelers, which we were very lucky to do that, like we were just happened, we weren't, yeah, it wasn't our goal to get all of them, but we just happened to get five out of the six. And I was like, well, now we have to trade to get the sixth one. Yeah. It's just um. And then the three postcards, that was fast because we had we opened six. So three out of six was we were able to get on them. And then we gave away the ones that we had uh extras of because we just wanted one of each.
SPEAKER_00That's okay. It's a neat card. I think the art on it is really nice. It it is.
SPEAKER_01I love the how all of the leaves are different colors. Yeah. Just like the colors of the wind. Yes. Um, but I had such a great time. I'm very excited to see where the Wilds Unknown is going to be moving forward and excited to kind of move forward with our podcast, have different perspectives, and uh, we're gonna see where this next journey takes us.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01All right, and with that, happy questing. Happy questing.
