Attack of the Vine opening weekend was a little rootin’, a lot tootin’, and completely chaotic. Brittany recaps her last-minute trip to Downtown Disney, which included driving through the night, sleeping for an hour and a half, and standing in line for nearly ten hours just to get Lorcana product.

We also talk about our pre-release weekends, the unbelievable Iconic and Enchanted pulls happening around us, the cards that already feel broken in sealed, and the decks we’re testing in this wide-open post-rotation meta. Plus, we share what’s coming up for the Lorcana Muses, including our August tournament and Glimmer Days at Disneyland.

SPEAKER_02

Hello and welcome to the Lorcana Muses podcast. I'm Brittany. I'm Nikki.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Leslie.

SPEAKER_02

And we're back for another Root and Tutin episode after having an interesting opening weekend for Attack of the Vine, I could say the least. I ended up deciding very last minute to drive out to downtown Disney, which I had not decided on Tuesday when we recorded. It was not in the cards. It was not the original plan. We had, we were planning on doing a team party, and that fell through on that Thursday. So instead of having the team party, we uh drove to downtown Disney. Well, right.

SPEAKER_00

You did. Yes, I did. I did. And my husband did. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we had we had several teammates end up going and teammates significant others go to have us travel out to this chaos that was downtown Disney. We had we had a room booked, ready to go, thinking that we would get a few hours of sleep once we got there. As we drove in, we drove by where the line was forming and it was already there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So we dropped off half of our party to get in line and at 2 a.m. At 2 a.m. Yes. But I had driven the whole night. And so I had to at least get a little bit of sleep. Of course. Because I was just completely zombie. Zombie. Yeah, I was a complete zombie and I wouldn't have been safe because I was gonna be driving back too. So, like, and we weren't planning on staying past. So I was like, okay, well, if I'm driving back, I need at least at least one cycle of sleep. So we went to the hotel and uh got an hour and a half of sleep and then got back up and went back and got in line. The line hadn't gotten too much busier since that, since we had left an hour and a half before. Like it wasn't too much longer, and but it was still crazy. And by the time six o'clock rolled around when they started moving the line in into kind of a little bit to kind of reorganize us, it was very long. It was starting to go around. So we were near the Pixar hotel and out there, and it was actually a little chilly, which I would have I was happy it was chilly at night because during the day it was so hot. Yeah. It was very sunburnt. Yeah, it felt it had sunscreen, and I got sunburnt still too, because it just was still the very intense, and I brought an umbrella and things like that. Like I there were parts of it that I felt prepared for only because we live in Arizona and I feel like I'm prepared to be out in the sun, but I wasn't expecting to be out in the sun for as long as we were. And I don't think anyone was prepared, prepared for how crazy this was. I definitely know that Disney was not prepared because they were bringing people in all night long as they saw the lines forming. And it was frustrating because it didn't feel kind of fair how they did the lines either, eventually. Yes, I understood why the hotel guests got in first, because hey, they're paying for Disneyland hotel prices, and so they already get entry inside early, no matter what day it is. But it was then that they let other entrances in too, and so before the entrance we were staying at. And so I was frustrated by that. And then security lines weren't being let in at the same time as we got further in. So people that I know were there much later than us were ahead of us in line. And so that was a little frustrating on our point of like from our side. And we were able to get more things than other people were because we were about we were about the middle of the line, I would say. If we looked at the entirety of this gigantic line and like all the playmats and everything were sold out by the time hotel guests were done, they definitely didn't have a lot of those. And then troves were the next thing to be sold out. And I've heard that troves sell out on opening weekend at Disneyland all the time. Yeah. So like that part wasn't surprising. But then it was just then all the boxes were sold out, and all they had when we were in line were the hangers, like the singular pack. So we were able to get a few singular singular packs and then the princess boxes. Which we were there for the princess boxes. We would just were we were hoping to get product at MSRP because the allocation of product was so bad.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean, we were supposed to have our team opening party on Thursday, and the reason we didn't was because the person, like the our supplier, fell through essentially because they reallocated or the distributors reallocated a lot of.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, we were we were yeah, we were working with somebody that was gonna give us, you know, a little bit of an early opening, right? And but it c it didn't work out because they didn't they didn't get their product. So it's kind of wild because we were really frustrated by that. But then I know that like I heard about across the country, like prices were going up. People were dropping their pre-orders and then having to repay at a higher price and or just not getting their product, or just not getting their product at all, and not even sure when they're gonna get their product. So it's wild to think that we are, you know, 13 sets in and this is a problem.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean, I think that it it kind of makes sense because the game has been popular, but not to this level of people wanting to buy. And I think really it started back in the last set when the iconic Mickey sold for what was it, like a hundred thousand dollars or something. Uh I think it was the Buzz, right? The iconic Buzz. Oh, the iconic Mickey. Oh, not Iconic Mickey, the the golden Mickey. Yes, yeah. So once that golden Mickey sold, everyone was like, There's money in this game. Yeah. And so we ended up with the same problem that Pokemon has, that a lot of other card games end up having, magic and things that everybody wants to pull the chase card and the iconic value shot up. And so all this product is really expensive now because everybody wants to gamble on finding the enchanted or iconic that they can turn around and sell. And it's not necessarily players that are buying up all the product, which is unfortunate.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it puts us at a disadvantage.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean, the the good news on that end, though, is that you can buy play sets of all the cards, all the normal cards for pretty cheap. Like somebody did the math I saw online somewhere that you could buy a full play set of Wild's Unknown for like 350 bucks. A full play set of every single card. But the uh downside of that is if you're doing competitions, especially like the LCQ coming up or Nationals, you need to get your product early because you won't have time to order off of some online platforms and get every copy of every card that you need. So there's like, I'm sure that the a full play set of every card in the set will also be cheap, but not here in time for people who are doing early competitive events, which is unfortunate.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I will say that at least in the section of line we were in, almost everyone there was a player. Like just based on conversation. I mean, we were in line together for a very long time. So we did do a lot of talking with the people near us, and most of them had been playing for at least some period of time. There was a mom and her son, um, her, and like it was her first release. She had played uh the two-player deck from last set, until she was like excited to try it. And this I was wanted to remind her, I'm like, this is not a normal release. I hope that you this isn't discouraging you from playing this game because it was a wild experience.

SPEAKER_01

Well, and it's like you guys at least were able to get in and get product, right? There were some releases like in London where they had to just completely cancel the release because it just got so chaotic.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, well, I heard that people were like in the middle of traffic and like there were there was some like people that weren't really following any sort of line expectations over there, which is like it was a safety issue.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's what I mean. Like, like they canceled it because they just couldn't bottle it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And that's yeah, that's very frustrating. And they just they did end the line. Like they ended the line and did not continue to let people get in line at some point because of how long the line had gotten. So I do know that they were trying to limit it to where they didn't have upset people at the end of the line so that they waited all day on that line and then not get product at the end.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So they did have some idea of how much product they had when it came to the princess boxes, but I don't think they were expecting the whole store to be cleaned out, essentially. And and like they had the artist there, but we had spent all we spent all day in line. Yeah. And so like by the time we got to the end of the line, the artist was already gone. So which I didn't expect him to stick around. Sounded so chaotic. It was it I am still tired. It's it's Tuesday as we're recording right now. So now I'm the one who drove both there and back. Right. But like standing in line that whole time.

SPEAKER_01

In the sun. In the sun.

SPEAKER_02

It was really the sun that I think did the worst part of it. It's draining. It was very draining. And as someone, I mean, we live live in the heat. So it's not that the sun is something that we're we don't stand in the sun the last year, like we live it, but we're not we stay indoors in air conditioning. Yeah, and so it's it's it's also like it's like standing for that long. I would rather be walking. Like I could walk all day and be fine. It was just the standing, like my feet are still hurting. Yeah. Um, I definitely like have have a flare up in my planner fascia. Like, like, like, like, like, like just standing instead of walking. Yeah. There was no breeze. Yeah. Um, but I'm my biggest issue with the line, because I actually don't mind standing in a line, like, don't get me wrong, not the biggest fan, was the fact that they were kind of being rude towards people that had like ADA needed ADA accommodations.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Um, so like we had we saw people that needed to not be in the sun the whole entire time. And like people there was like cast members, which I was surprised by, that gave us attitude when we were like, this person needs to stay in the shade while the rest of us stay in this line. And so that was disappointing because I've never had that kind of experience before. Most of the class members we interacted with were fantastic, and that and that's the norm that I like we ended up dropping a lemonade um because the cup was sweating because it was so hot. Um, and the cup kind of collapsed. And we dropped the lemonade and they brought us a new one because they saw us drop it. And, you know, it was just kind of a, you know, very nice Disney thing. Yeah. And then, and then later, like we had like the security guy at the beginning of the day was really nice and like had given us like some like pointers and things like that for the future, answered all our questions. And then that lady that helped us with eliminate was very nice. And then it was just, I think it was because we were closer to the end of the line, and I'm sure that they were the most stressed.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, I I can't imagine, like you said, if Disney didn't seem as prepared for as many people to show up and like lines to be starting at midnight and all this stuff, it's probably a lot of those cast members weren't supposed to be there. Yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I heard several of them say, Hey, I got called in, it's my day off.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So like I was on PTO. Like there were people that got called in.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So unfortunate for them. And I I'm glad, I'm glad that at least as chaotic as it was, like nobody had any serious like injuries or anyone got hurt or anything like that. Yeah. It sounded like in other places there were a lot of issues.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, there were definitely some medical events that happened just because of the heat. Yeah. So but it's it's one of those things where had they, you know, accommodated for shade or exp like had the lines laid out ahead of time and things like that, which we know that they can do. Disney can do a line.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, they can.

SPEAKER_02

And like they put down tape pretty like about mid like a like a quarter of the way through the ropes. They didn't have the ropes, but they didn't put tape on the ground and everything, but they did it as we were in line. So they did the tape around us. Interesting. So yeah, I definitely am like I hope have high hopes that they'll make improvements because I don't think unless they decide to only do things like virtual cues and which I know which which what they're doing for D23, every product has to be sold through a virtual crew queue. Like that's where I don't think it's a bad idea. Well, I mean, we saw some of the pictures from D23 last time. It it seemed like it was necessary. Um and based on the lines we saw this weekend, I do I don't disagree. I mean, I know they've been doing more of the online raffles. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The lottery, yeah, to get purchasing product, which I also don't think is a bad thing. No. Um it does stink for people who it's harder for people who don't who aren't already in the know to find product. But those are collectors for collector items essentially. So I do feel like that is a better idea. We're not collectors. We I mean we collect cards, but we're not like chasing after every enchanted or iconic or anything like that.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And and so we we know people who do. Yeah. And so those like it's great that they get to be put into like a lottery system and not have to stand in the heat for nine hours and know that when they show up, they will have their product there. Yeah. I think that's better than you know, had you driven all the way there and weren't even able to get in to get your product, that would have been really disappointing.

SPEAKER_02

Which some people did. And so, like, that is definitely like there are people that I know that traveled there that did not get in line or they didn't get anything because they didn't get in line in time. Few exciting things though, I saw Kimber and Doug there. So, like, that was exciting. I I mean, we had no idea we did not plan to see each other because, well, first of all, they didn't know I was coming because I've decided last Sunday we were coming was coming. So we didn't make any plans outside of I saw them in line. So I was really excited to see them, but because we also like had to start leaving as soon as we had finished up everything because we wanted to come back home. Our original plan was to go there overnight and then come back and be able to play and pre-release that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

When you posted that in our group chat, I told Chris, I'm like, that's probably not gonna happen. It's like even if you did make it back on time, I know you and you would be like, I would be so tired.

SPEAKER_02

I I would have been too tired, especially like if we had, but because we had to get in line right away, and then we were in line for you know so long.

SPEAKER_01

It was like 10 hours online. Yeah, yeah. See, that's why I always I mean, I don't know, like I wouldn't go stand in line for 10 hours for anything, honestly. But I always bring stuff to do with me. Like you guys always see I have a book or crochet or like whatever, right? And I probably would still be bored because you'd be done with whatever you're reading or whatever about 10 hours, right?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I I could forget.

SPEAKER_01

Really? We had no idea.

SPEAKER_02

So I I was fine.

SPEAKER_00

It's not like you have a podcast.

SPEAKER_02

Um, so I was fine because I I'm just relative I'm relatively social. I I'm very social. Um and so I I was able to talk basically the whole time and had lots of things to talk about. We had teammates and we had teammates partners and things like that there. So it was it was a good group of us there. Talked to other people in line, like met talk, found, talk to people that were at um that traveled to Arizona for like our big tournaments and things. So like they knew like we talked and they're like, Hey, it's good to see you again, and things like that. It's cool. Um, talked to several fans and things like that. So that was cool.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah. I mean, that is again like our community is just so cool. And not just our local, just the Lorcana community in general. For sure. It's like people who play and collect and and just love Disney.

SPEAKER_02

Is they're just yeah, I did hear like at the beginning of the line, there was a lot less actual players. So shocker that. So I it's I know people were upset because they saw the pictures of people just having stacks of boxes and things like that.

SPEAKER_01

It's weird that they didn't limit crazy they did. Oh, they didn't know. They definitely did.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Paris is the one that didn't limit, but they also like, I'm sure those people were buying from other people and like paying cash on the spot, things like that. Like um from the people that are in line, brought other people with them. I can't say much because I brought my sister with me, but also like I spent all day with my sister and things like that too.

SPEAKER_00

And yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But I didn't bring more, I brought just my sister.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I didn't you didn't bring an army of no, I didn't bring an army of people.

SPEAKER_02

Um, I also like road tripped with my sister. So like that was also part of it. Like I got to spend all day with her, which I that was a big part of it for me. So like I got to spend time with Tatiana, who is like Mikey's fiance, and you know, we're we're good friends, and I'm excited because we're also going to, she's gonna come to the she's coming to nationals with us. So she got to get kind of get a first taste of Lorcana.

SPEAKER_01

Well, they Mikey has been having a great pre-release weekend.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. The pre-release weekend, um, overall, like there were so many fantastic polls pulled. And our friend Mikey, who's been on the podcast a few times, that man is lucky.

SPEAKER_01

Very yeah. This set, this yeah, this set has been very good.

SPEAKER_02

Mikey opened not only one Beauty and the Beast iconic, but two Beauty and the Beast iconics from the pre-release. From pre-release pack.

SPEAKER_00

So crazy.

SPEAKER_02

On separate days, but he opened two of them. So he opened the first one on Friday after trading Daryl packs. They traded seats, and so Daryl would have opened it.

SPEAKER_01

The funny thing is, like, as soon as that happened, Daryl said, Don't tell my wife. But like Logan was already messaging.

SPEAKER_02

No, I already knew. I had already found out. Somebody already well, I was driving, so I found out later, but I had the message right away.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It was like a couple people messaging you like Daryl traded spots and the spot had the icon.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was definitely there. Yeah, so Mikey opened two of them and and a few enchanted. Right. So, and his enchanted sharp were from boxes, but his iconics were from pre-release boxes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that I saw some people opening, or somebody in Arizona opened an iconic and an enchanted in the same pre-release box, which is just insane. Yeah, yeah. The poor rate.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and then Brad's, I think, daughter this time opened double double enchanted, and his wife did that last set from pre-release kits.

SPEAKER_01

So our good luck from last set didn't carry over. I was telling you guys before, I was like, Chris and I opened probably the equivalent of uh three cases, and we got one enchanted each. And I still can't complain too much because I've heard other people opening four or five cases and seeing no enchanted. And so it's like, at least we got an enchanted, and Chris got the enchanted that he really wanted, but it's still it I am happy for people who opened a lot of really good product. I'm glad the pull rates are higher, but I also am a little jealous of all the enchanteds people are opening left because we did a bunch of pre-release events, and it's always the person across from me or next to me that's opening the enchanted and not and not me.

SPEAKER_02

Daryl and I'm like we're always fortunate because we always we do, you know, have good jobs and like we have the ability to buy a lot of product for this game. And so like I'm always feeling grateful for that, first and foremost. But because of that, we opened almost three c three cases worth between pre-release. Yeah. Between pre-release and uh actual product, and uh but we opened six enchanteds out of all of that. That's awesome. So I opened my I opened Maleficent and Diablo twice, and Daryl opened Mickey and Minnie twice, and then I opened a Darkwing Duck and I I cannot remember the last enchanted we opened because we're gonna trade all of them, right? Like we're gonna we're not keeping oh, it was a Mike Wazowski. Oh okay, like the Mike Wowski. That's the one I want. I was like, like we we already traded it. That's why I can't keep up freaking.

SPEAKER_01

I really wanted the Mike Wazowski.

SPEAKER_02

So um, and so we like we were fortunate to open many enchanteds in those products, none in none in pre-release hits, yeah. Um but in the boxes and and prize packs that we won. So pre-release.

SPEAKER_01

I'm really glad that the poll rates are higher for like legendaries, but even so, the first on the Friday we did pre-release, Chris and I only opened one legendary each in our pre-release boxes. Yeah. And while I watched the person across from me, who was brand new to the game, by the way, pull like four legendaries and they were really good ones too. They pulled like the Dash and Violet, and uh I can't remember what else it was like two, oh, da two Dash and Violets. That's right. And then they pulled like another legendary that was really good for sealed. And I'm just like Chris and I built our decks on Friday, and we're like, these are the worst sealed decks you've ever built in our lives. Like Chris said usually he has to put in like, you know, 10 to 12 filler cards. He put in like 30 filler cards.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, I mean that is the that is the problem with sealed, right? Like you can't that's why I like to draft versus playing sealed because I feel like there's a little bit more chance to not have complete, you know, garbage.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Let me tell you about my sealed or draft experience this weekend. So we did an event where we did draft, and the person across from me opened an enchanted Peter Pan and Tinkerbell and then opened another legendary Peter Pan. Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, of course, pulling both of those cards. And so when I and I ended up playing him, he dropped the second Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. And I said, Well, that's my game. Like it's over. I can't do anything. Like, there's not enough alert characters, there's not enough gastons.

SPEAKER_02

I did not open a singular Gaston in any of my pre-release packs all weekend. Wow. And we opened plenty in the product that we opened later, but I didn't have any in my pre-release kits.

SPEAKER_01

I opened a gaston in almost every pre-release kit, but then never found it in the death when I needed it.

SPEAKER_02

No, I opened none of them. And so I was like, okay, that's fun. I did get the of Sully, the bodyguard that pulled kits one back. That was so fun. I didn't get the shift for it at any time. That would have been fantastic. But I really enjoyed doing that. And I played some decent, decent decks. Sunday, my deck was not very good. I had some decent cards, but just not enough pieces that would work, were working well. However, I did play a series of matches where I shifted Sun Yi, uh, the red panda universal shift one. And I shifted her probably eight turns in a row because I had multiple shift targets. So when the original like uh Maylan Lee shift target was gone, I then had a second Maylan Lee, and I also had a uh Diablo. So like I had all of these not Diablo, Morph. Shift and no, not Diablo, Morph. It's like another amethyst. I was thinking amethyst. And that was super fun, but also I was like, I felt really bad because I definitely won those games because of that. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, being able to shift on two is yeah, ridiculous.

SPEAKER_02

And then the funny comes back to your hand and then it heals the character underneath. I was playing with the amethyst uh Maylin Lee. And so that that shift target stays evasive. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You know what else is really broken and sealed? It's that um Winnie the Pooh song that draws one with every color we talked about. Yes. I heard people were like, oh, I draw five. And I'm like, what? You draw five? The game's just over. Like, what do you do in sealed against your opponent when you're top decking and they draw five? Uh-huh. Cry. Cry.

SPEAKER_02

I was there were so many pre-release events. Yes. Yes. And I I met I met new people every single day. Yeah, it's so awesome. Uh, I mean, and there's pre-release events all this week too. And I I'm so excited because I as much as, you know, the push per product is disappointing and is frustrating as a player sometimes to not be able to get um the cards that you want, except for waiting, you know, to buy them online. Yeah. The game is still growing and new people are still playing. And I love pre-release for that alone because I think it's brought people, it's like a lower threshold to introduce people to the game.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But it's been I'm like, I'm still excited. I'm still tired, but I'm I'm very excited. And I'm I'm kind of proud of how most of the Lorcana community acted um in response to a lot of the things that happened this weekend.

SPEAKER_01

So I I mean in the pre-releases were all extremely fun. And like you said, there was new people, and myself included, I always say to somebody new, it's like, if you have any questions at all, like I don't, we will help you build your deck. Like, if you have any questions about the mechanics, it's it's really great that other people do that.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I felt like I left my friend Alexis in good hands with you and Chris on Friday night because it was a little overwhelming for me and Ganon and Son. It was getting to be a lot, and then trying to put his deck together and my deck together was just like, okay, I don't have the brain capacity for this on top of the noise. So, you know, we ended up bailing and it had already been a long day for us. He had school and we had other we had he had his music lessons that day. So it was just already a long day for us. But I mean, throughout the weekend we went to different events and uh But mostly we played at home playing Pack Rush because that was just a lot of fun. It's kind of the way I like to play getting new into a new set because I feel like you get what you get and then you have to figure out how to play with what's in your hand.

SPEAKER_01

You don't get and you don't have to put a deck together on time crunch. Well, you were building two decks essentially. I was yeah, I was I was hoping to finish my deck at time to help like you were getting it.

SPEAKER_00

But I couldn't, I was like, my deck sucks. That's how I was feeling when I was like building mine. Dann had better cards than I did, but yeah, I was like, why do I have all two drops? Like I felt like my whole deck was just gonna be two drops at that point, but it was but you know, I was able to pull the enchanted that I wanted, which was the Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. I was so excited, it's so beautiful. So I was excited.

SPEAKER_02

Another as pretty as the beauty movies, yeah. For which Daryl switched seats out of it. He did switch seats, but yeah, no, thankfully, Mikey was uh a really gracious friend and wanted to trade us because he opened two.

SPEAKER_01

So I do have Mike my iconic. I'm so jealous that several people opened the Lelo and Stitch iconic, but I didn't even get to see it in person.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I still haven't seen it.

SPEAKER_01

Because like at G O M on Friday, the pre-release, somebody opened, I think, the iconic Lelo and Stitch, the table behind where Mikey and Daryl were sitting, and then somebody in the west side, I think, pulled an iconic Lilo and Stitch. And I'm just like, but I just want to see it in person.

SPEAKER_00

I I and run, you're right. You just want to see uh and run. I feel like all right, right. I would never do that. I would feel so awful.

SPEAKER_02

I I I feel like I heard of more of the beauty and the beast one being than the Lilo and Stitch.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and that might maybe that's just locally, but But that's why I was like, I've only heard of two people opening it, and I was in the room with one of them, but I didn't have the courage to go up and ask them if I could see it because I've never met those. And I'm not as social as you. Oh, my. If you're a baby, show me the money, yeah, yeah. See it, but I don't really know them. And and he's like, just ask, and I'm like, no, it's okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I definitely have my moments like there are definitely especially on Fridays, I when I get tired, I am like, I'm so done with people, right? Yeah. I'm at the end, I I have reached a limit where I mean, anyone that knows me well enough knows I get very grumpy when I'm sleepy. And so I I wasn't as social on this past Friday when I was in line as I normally am because I was sleepy. Yeah. So I there's a reason why like on our socials, like there aren't very many pictures. I didn't take any videos, I didn't do a good social media thing. I mean, our our main thing is our podcast, and our Brandon, our teammate that went with us was like, Did you bring microphones? And I'm no, of course not. That would be a good podcast move with bring microphones. But of course, it was a last minute decision to come. Um, so I wasn't overly prepared. But if we do this again, which I haven't decided yet if I'm gonna do it again, because it was a experience.

SPEAKER_00

We really have to pre-plan.

SPEAKER_02

We do have to pre-plan. It was something that we couldn't have planned for them where it was at. Like sure, like we could not have we there was no amount of preparation that would have prepared us because nobody was prepared for that. Right. Yeah. But I would have been more prepared.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm. Yeah, I don't know if you'll ever get me to stand in line for 10 hours in the sun for a box of cards.

SPEAKER_04

I love Larcona.

SPEAKER_01

I love TCTs, but or yeah, I love TCTs, but I will I'm not a collector.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's fair. And I I feel like I choose what I'm collecting, right? So like I really like having sealed product and things like that. So that's something that I like I do not go for every enchanted or anything. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh but I want all of these boxes, right? I have the D23 one.

SPEAKER_01

I have Yeah, it 100% makes sense why people do it. Yeah, yeah. I'm just saying, me personally, you like if you're like, let's go do a podcast in line for whatever. You'll be like, I'm not, I'm skipping. I'll phone in from home. Thank yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I know somebody's like, why aren't you going live on Instagram? And I was like, because I'm tired. I'm tired, I'm grumpy, I'm not wearing the Britney they want. I I had high hopes. I had brought like my makeup bag at some point. Yeah. Like I had it with me, not with me in line, but I had it with me at the hotel because I was like, Oh, I'll have time, I'll I'll take pictures, I'll be out with people, it's Lorcana people. Definitely did not wear makeup to get in that line because I had, you know, an hour and a half of sleep, and I was like, I'm not gonna spend any of that time putting on makeup to then go get in line for hours in the heat. Yeah, the heat would have melted it off, my face. Right either way. I did we did not expect it to be as hot. It was actually hotter than what the weather had predicted, too. So, like, that's that was the other part of it.

SPEAKER_01

Probably didn't help that you were in a crowd and there's no shade and yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out to my umbrella lifesaver. Yeah, I do apologize for everybody that was standing around me though, because I definitely was not the best umbrella wielder. And I did poke a few people in the head with it. Now the crowd was very close together. They had it coming.

SPEAKER_01

You were hoping to knock a couple people out so that you get closer aligned.

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't me, it was the umbrella.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Can you imagine Orcana Muse knocks people out?

SPEAKER_00

Tagline.

SPEAKER_02

But yeah, as we're getting we're getting so the next Disney event that I'm like really excited for is our own tournament. So like we have some planning and practicing and things for LCQ is coming up, but the Lorcana Muses is hosting a tournament on August 8th here at Game Outpost in Mesa. Um, and we have about 30 people signed up right now. We have capacity for 60. So, you know, I feel really good about that. I'm super excited to have that event here. And I think it's just a really good practice before a good portion of our community goes to the LCQ.

SPEAKER_01

So and a couple of them are already qualified for nationals, so it'll be good practice for the people that need to practice, right?

SPEAKER_03

Who are not qualified for nationals and want to win their LCQ. Yeah. Win in the L C get high enough in that LCQ.

SPEAKER_02

And so um, yeah, I'm really excited. I'm excited. I always like to host tournaments. It's been a while, so it's a good thing for our community. And then I am actually helping with the organization for the next Quest in the Park event, um, which is the Disneyland extravaganza that's Lorcana themed. So, but it's we changed the name to Glimmer Game or Glimmer Glimmer Days, not Glimmer Games, Glimmer Days. Glimmer Days. Um, and so that will be the Thursday before the nationals event and then the Monday after. And so that is a few of us content creators are helping run that event. So it'll be me and Lorcana Fran, Rebecca Quest, and a few others that are helping with that event. So that'll be super fun. So if anyone's planning on going to Disneyland either the Thursday before or the sun, uh the Monday after, um, you know, Continentals try to seek us out because we're gonna be doing like Lorcana-centric activities in the park that day. So fun. Yeah, I'm I'm I'm excited to see what people might do as like a closet cosplay, or you know, we're gonna do a scavenger hunt, do a, we're gonna try to all ride the same ride at one point, do a group photo for sure. Are you gonna get characters to sign their cards? That is part of the scavenger hunt. So yeah, things like that. So I'm excited to just kind of do like a Disney Lurcana day, which I've never done. I wasn't able to go to that one last last last year. So kind of pumped to do that this time. Because I ended up going to Disneyland on Sunday last time with Mikey. So I was like, so my Mikey, Mikey and Tatiana are going with us to that Disneyland Disneyland on Thursday with Daryl. Daryl is not a big fan of lines, but I'll do it for Disney. But what are you guys looking forward to? That's a good question.

SPEAKER_00

Just playing more this time. Started building a lot of decks and have been testing some out online. So just getting back into the rhythm of the game and kind of seeing what I guess I'm gonna get comfortable playing with and just try out different color combinations because I usually am Ruby amethyst, but I am open to trying different color combinations. So I think building these decks and seeing I've watched a lot of YouTube videos by content creators, you know, putting, you know, winning decks from the last, what was it, CCQ? Really cool decks. So I'm interested to try them out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we we already had uh over this weekend a CCQ on Saturday and a CCQ on Sunday. So there's cool it's cool that there's already data out there. Although I I am hesitant to rely on that data because I'm sure it was the wild, wild west decks, like, you know, people bringing whatever from homebrew to rounds.

SPEAKER_02

It definitely definitely looked a little bit like there was a little bit of Wild West in the percentages of decks. Yes. But they were fun. I a big shout out to Humble. Um I've always loved his deck building because he's a big Ruby Amber Ruby Amber player. And as someone who's played Ruby Amber a lot, I've always liked seeing what kind of spice he put together, and he ended up winning the CCQ with a Ruby Amber deck that uses like the Sully and the Sully and Boo shift. Oh yeah, yeah. Uses like Scrooge's Counting House and Scrooge. Didn't he call it the Boosty Boys? Yes, the Skype. Yes, with the Boo Sti Boys, the Webby's Diary. Yeah, with the Webby's Diary. So it's kind of a it's it doesn't have a as many of the new cards as like I've seen that deck be from last set, right? So there's there are changes, but not as many as yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the the Sully combo with the shift is such a menace because you know, you you shift the Sully, you you know, challenge whatever it is, even if it gets banished, you bring back the bodyguard Sully, who brings back the shift Sully, and you just Sully cycle essentially.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Um, I've tested out the deck. It is so fun, but it does feel diabolical to continue the Sully cycle because you're just like, haha, I'm just gonna keep doing this.

SPEAKER_01

Um yeah, I mean I'm I'm this meta is it is no longer Elsa's world because I think Elsa warped the game so much, and cards like Tramp warped the game so much, and those cards are now rotated out. And I feel like that opens up a lot of room to play more of the cards that were maybe playable but only have two health, and and that kind of ruined a lot of people's Elsa kind of ruined a lot of people's plans, even though I played her in Blurple all the time. I'm just saying it was a meta-defining card, you know. And so with the rotation, I think the meta is just I've seen so many decks with different combinations, and they're all they all look very viable. And it's not just rock, paper, scissors anymore. I at least the beginning of this set doesn't seem like it's rock, paper, scissors anymore.

SPEAKER_00

No, there's a lot of decks that look like a lot of fun to try out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I will note like a lot of the decks do feel very high-rolly. Like I got crushed by Amber Ruby Panda Shift deck immediately. Like I had zero chance. But then I tried the deck out for myself and it's like either you have it or you don't. And I'm like, I that feels aggro to me, right? Like, I'm not a player that is like, I have it or I don't, and I accept that. I'm always like, where's my out? Let me dig for my out. And so I did not like, I did not gel with me at all, even though it was really fun when I did have it. But the times when you don't have like all the pieces that you need, it just sitting there watching your opponent do everything they want to do, and you're sitting there going, I would, I hope I draw an eagle.

SPEAKER_02

Singing Pirate's Life with the shifted melee is pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that's I didn't panda. See, that's the thing, is like when I had that, it was great. But many games I played, I only had characters and no songs or all songs and no characters. And it's like that's what you have to accept in those kinds of decks, right? Because it happens, but it's that's not me. I will not accept that.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like the few the few times that I picked up Steel song begrudgingly, I felt like that. Yeah. I felt like I'm like, it just doesn't feel like I can ever play this, even though I watch put people play this with such consistency.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, why is it not working for me? Yeah, and I'm sure like, you know, you have to put in enough reps and you practice and stuff, but it's it's just not my play style. And even though playing the deck helped me learn the deck a lot, I don't think I would ever take it to a competition because I I don't think that way. And it's really hard. Like, I never gelled with Steel Song either, even though I knew it was a very like broken car meta deck, right? When it was in its prime. And it's still that that not being able to accept the fact that you will sometimes just brick. And yeah, not me. I want to be able to dig for outs.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, I I have yet to find a deck that I enjoy as much as I did when I played my Mufasa deck.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And it's been a while since that Mufasa deck has been around, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So uh I'm still trying to find that. I feel like the sully kind of cycling is close. Like it's it's it's get it's it's scratching that pitch a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

I do. I like free characters.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I like free characters, right? I enjoy that mechanic. And I like playing things at a discount, and and I like playing Maleficent Dragons. So that deck plays Maleficent Dragons too.

SPEAKER_01

Well, good thing there's trees and lanterns because apparently Amber's the ramp deck now. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I have always thought Amber was a ramp deck.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, but it's not actual ramp. That's okay. I know I'm seeing people play testing with one jump online and it just doesn't feel good. So yeah, I'm trying to figure out a post-ramp world. I don't know what to do with myself. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

I my goal right now is to build two competitive decks to play test a bunch and hopefully like lock into those two and then decide closer to the event which one I'm actually gonna play. But from there, I don't quite know exactly what what to expect.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, I have an idea of what I want to play. Unsurprisingly, there's sapphire in there. But I also was really excited to see that I think the detec a detectives list got like second at the CCO. And I was like, yes, detectives are still around. Because everyone, I was really sad when everyone was like, oh, detectives aren't gonna be as good and and everything. But I actually was of the belief that detectives never really needed ramp. And I think with the Darkwing duck that was print and launchpad that was printed this set, I think it's gonna be a pretty good deck.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, I I think that it it works well on tempo. Yeah, like it didn't necessarily need Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So that was like that that weekend that we played in Tucson. I was like, yeah, I'm playing Sapphire, but I'm not actually playing any ramp, surprisingly. So yeah, I'm excited to try that that deck.

SPEAKER_02

Well, on that note, it's time we say goodbye. It's time we it's time we say goodbye.

SPEAKER_01

Do I detect a goodbye coming?

SPEAKER_02

All right, happy questing, y'all. Happy questing.
